Programming

There are two parts to programming: 1) knowing what you want the program to do and 2) knowing how to tell the program to do it. Programming is really hard when you don't know either.

How People Become Claustrophobic

This is funny, but I do feel really bad for the kid.



All kinds of thoughts come to mind:
The Kid: "These stupid machines have taken enough of my money - time to get some back!"
Passerby: "Wow, the toys in those claw machines are getting more and more lifelike all the time!"
Infertile couple passing by: "Look, Honey, we've bee going about it all wrong! Give me some quarters."
Vending machine guy - days later: "Fingerprints on the inside? How the heck?"

Yeah, poor kid. Mom, you don't even need to ask, "well, did you learn your lesson?"

The…um…er…45 Day Challenge

So, about 30 days ago I posted about the 30 Day Challenge. Well, I didn’t make it. I did very poorly, in fact. So, I’m giving myself an extension! It is now the 45 Day Challenge and my due date is April 30. I just have to keep reminding myself – it’s too important to put off.

Dinner

water. minute rice. chicken bouillon cubes. canned chicken. cover and wait five minutes. the anticipation is killing me!

I can't wait for Sonja to get home.

Resistance is Futile

A little background to the story…

My details might be a little inaccurate here and there, but I don’t think it will suffer the story much. Sonja is in MOPS. Every so often (yearly?) her MOPS group brings in Antiquities and for $10 you can take your little angel(s) and get pictures of them dressed in old fashion garb and get a 11x14 (or some other large size) picture. For only $10! Ah, but here’s the catch. They take a bunch of different pictures and then when they come back a few weeks later, you have the option of buying additional pictures…pictures that are not cheap. At all. As in the opposite of cheap.

I went with Sonja to the shooting and I must say that Levi and a little pair of denim overalls makes for a pretty cute picture.

Imagine my relief (or should I say the relief of our budget) when we discovered that Sonja was going to be out of town all this week and that she was going to miss the come-pick-up-your-“free”-picture-and-get-suckered-into-buying-a-bunch-more appointment. Oh, darn, that meant I would have to go and tell them thanks for the 11x14, have a nice day – leaving happily with wallet and budget intact.

Well, then we both forgot about the appointment altogether and I missed our scheduled one. And got their voicemail with 15 minutes to get there to pick it up or I would have to pay $5 for shipping. $5! I’ll just run right down there and pick it up and save the $5.

I believe that it was at this point that events were put into motion that were beyond my control.

So I get there and lo and behold, those are some pretty cute pictures. And, wouldn’t it be fun to surprise Sonja with some (because I had made it very clear to her that we were not buying any more beyond the free one). And then the other moms are gathering around and “helping” me decide.

Needless to say, when it was all over, I was walking out with more than just my free picture (albeit the cheapest option available).

So, for those that will ask (and they usually do): no, I did not try to Dave Ramsey the price down; no, I did not flash cash; no, I did not wait overnight to buy; and, no, it was not in my budget. That being said, I will now be setting up a link to our PayPal account for those that want to donate to this cause.
